The fourth full-length collection of poems by Irish poet Patrick Cotter Quality Control at the Miracle Factory reflects the dark times of its writing, moving with unease through the world. Injustice and brutality are faced unflinchingly while the miracle of survival and endurance is credited and marvelled at, wherever it might occur

Reviews

The High Window March 2025 by Colin Carberry

"Filled with closely observed, constantly arresting and truly original and powerful images and themes, the poems in Quality Control in the Miracle Factory are of an unusually high calibre, such as one seldom finds. And, unlike much of today's verse, they make you feel as well as think."

Poetry Ireland Review, April 2025 - Maighread Medbh,

"The poems have the energy, perception and irony of Cotter's previous works, with his characteristic philosophical and technical flair. (his) Poems are strikingly musical, with mimetic sound and syntax."

The Irish Times - Martina Evans

"Elegy is Cotter's heart ground. Cotter's description expresses all the beautiful horror of fresh grief."

Ciaran O'Rourke, Books for Breakfast podcast

"Cotter has an original slant on this universe we're living in... There's a real imaginative intensity and vitali... There's a kind of density to his descriptions and sometimes an exuberance to the way that they unfold which can be very disturbing as well as gripping... this is a very engaging collection, well worth reading."

Sean Kelly, The Irish Examiner

"These are very much 21^st Century poems... Humanity's dysfunctional relationship with the natural world is a consistent theme in this collection. As much as we try to possess nature it, ultimately, possesses us."
